SLOVENIA
WHERE HATH THOU BEAUTIES COME FROM
Gradteater presents a new play called, in translation: "Slovenia where hath thou beauties come from".Under the leadership of director Ana Rokviæ, they have created an interesting socially-critical play, which explores the phenomenon of nagging. In our opinion, nagging is a general characteristic and a wide spread way of communicating especially typical for Slovenian culture. With exaggeration we unveil the phenomenon of nagging, question its purpose and the antithesis that nagging creates, when compared to the general well being and beauty of this country on the sunny side of the Alps.

The play was based on first hand experience from actors themselves and is therefore a reflection of our opinion in this matter. With the use of alternative theatre techniques not based on a script or scenario the director has managed to create and connect different experiences and opinions which were then brought to life on the stage by the actors.

There are many laughs to be had in the play, but the visitor might leave the show with a bitter taste in his mouth. When revealing otherwise amusing scenes and characters, which all have there special humor, we often find them highly exaggerated and even grotesque and only then the real tragedy shows it's real face and finishes the play with death and leaving. We can not search for tragedy in the phenomenon of nagging, but in realizing what options are taken away from us since in the end nothing seems beautiful or even good enough. And this is a crucial point, for it is not only tragedy, but also reality for many individuals. And this is the most important message that Gradteater tries to give with its play - enjoying the life you're living, jumping out and playing with it.
